About Daisy Editorial

I aim to work with my clients in collaboration to help you get the best out of your writing. My promise to you:

  • If Iโ€™m not the right person to help you, or not yet, Iโ€™ll tell you that rather than waste your time (and money) and mine.
  • I wonโ€™t judge. Iโ€™ll give you professional advice on how you can improve your writing to effectively communicate what you want to say.
  • I rarely do strict rules and absolute rights and wrongs. Iโ€™ll work to get the best out of your writing but to keep it sounding like you. My personal preferences are irrelevant.
  • Iโ€™ll guide you through the editorial process, with free resources along the way to help you understand what Iโ€™ll do with your text and what your responsibilities and tasks are.
  • When weโ€™re done (and youโ€™ve paid me) Iโ€™ll make sure you get the latest versions of your files so youโ€™re free to take the work elsewhere in future if you want to.

Before going freelance as a copyeditor and proofreader in 2003 as Daisy Editorial, I spent over 14 years working in information and publications roles in an international legal firm, a local authority and several NGOs.

Margaret Hunter

English language editor and formatter

Advanced Professional Member of the CIEP with over 25 years of editing and publishing experience. Will you be my next client?

Itโ€™s been a pleasure to complete our first project with Daisy Editorial. The finished document, totalling some 600 pages, was delivered on time, on budget, with great communication throughout. This is by far the most consistent document weโ€™ve ever produced, so thank you for your hard work and attention to detail.

Training and qualifications

Iโ€™ve got respected copyediting and proofreading training, and I invest in CPD to make sure my skills and knowhow stay fresh.

Iโ€™m an Advanced Professional Member (APM) of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). To be awarded that level of membership, editors must have achieved the standards of training and experience set by the Institute.

All Daisy Editorial work is carried out in strictest confidence and in accordance with the CIEP Code of Practice. I served on the Council of the CIEP, and its predecessor the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP), from 2015 to 2021.

Based in Fife in Scotland, I work for a diverse range of clients worldwide, including: small businesses and sole traders; self-publishing authors; charities, institutions, NGOs, government departments and public sector bodies; traditional magazine and book publishers and small presses; and design agencies and graphic artists.

I can help you improve your publications and communications, including books, reports, promotional materials, web content, blogs, business documents and manuals. I also work with authors whose first language isnโ€™t English and who want their writing to flow.
